The international system is undergoing profound transformation, marked by geopolitical contestations, technological disruptions, economic fragmentation, climate challenges, shifting power balances, and growing uncertainty in global governance. Against this backdrop, the conference is being organised in collaboration with and with the support of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi, reflecting the importance of strengthening academic–policy engagement and facilitating informed dialogue on India's evolving role in world affairs. The transition from post-Cold War unipolarity towards a complex multipolar order has created new opportunities as well as strategic challenges for India. In this evolving environment, India's foreign policy is increasingly moving beyond traditional balancing towards a more pragmatic approach of strategic autonomy.

The vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, coinciding with the centenary of India's independence, recognizes that national transformation and global engagement are closely interconnected. Economic growth, technological advancement, national security, sustainable development and social resilience increasingly depend upon effective diplomacy and international partnerships. Foreign policy, therefore, is not merely an instrument of external relations but an important facilitator of national development.

The conference seeks to prov ide an interdisciplinary platform for examining how India's foreign policy can advance the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 through development diplomacy, economic partnerships, strategic security, regional engagement and global governance. A further focus is India's growing engagement with global governance and the Global South. India's role in the G20, BRICS and other multilateral platforms, its advocacy for reform of global institutions, and its emphasis on inc lusi ve multi l a ter a l ism and grea ter representation of developing countries highlight its expanding contribution to global rule- making.

The conference is therefore designed to bring together academics, diplomats, policymakers, practitioners and research scholars from India and abroad to critically examine the evolving relationship between foreign policy and national development. It aims to bridge academic scholarship and policy practice, generate informed policy perspectives, and contribute to debates on India's role in building a stable, equitable, sustainable and inclusive international order while advancing the objectives of Viksit Bharat @2047.
