How IEEE involvement actually works

IEEE technical co-sponsorship is the thing most authors are actually looking for, because it is what makes proceedings eligible for IEEE Xplore. It is granted per conference, by an IEEE society or section, and it appears on the conference's own site as a co-sponsorship number. If a call for papers claims IEEE involvement but shows no number and names no sponsoring society, treat that as unconfirmed.

What to check before you submit

  • A named IEEE society, section or council as technical co-sponsor
  • A conference record number, usually shown as #XXXXX
  • Proceedings submitted to IEEE Xplore rather than "guaranteed indexed"
  • A programme committee whose members publish in the field

Not necessarily. This page lists conferences whose organisers reference IEEE in their own materials. IEEE technical co-sponsorship is granted per event and shown as a conference record number on the organiser's site — check for it before you submit.
Does IEEE co-sponsorship guarantee IEEE Xplore indexing?
No. Co-sponsorship makes proceedings eligible for Xplore, but publication is assessed after the event and can be declined on quality grounds. Any organiser promising guaranteed Xplore indexing in advance is overstating what they control.
How do I check a conference record number?
Search the conference name in the IEEE conference search. If the event is co-sponsored it will appear there with its number. If it does not appear at all, ask the organiser directly.
