How Scopus involvement actually works

Scopus is an abstract and citation database, not a publisher. It does not approve conferences in advance. Proceedings are evaluated after publication, against the publishing venue's track record, and can be discontinued if standards slip. This means no conference can honestly guarantee Scopus indexing before it has taken place — the strongest accurate claim is that previous editions were indexed.

What to check before you submit

  • Evidence that previous editions were actually indexed — check the Scopus source list
  • A named publisher for the proceedings, since Scopus indexes sources, not events
  • Language that says "will be submitted" rather than "guaranteed indexed"
  • A realistic gap between submission deadline and conference date

Can a conference guarantee Scopus indexing?
No. Scopus evaluates proceedings after publication, so nobody can promise it in advance. A guarantee of Scopus indexing is one of the most reliable warning signs of a predatory conference.
How do I check whether previous proceedings were indexed?
Search the publisher and series in the Scopus source list, or look up a paper from a previous edition and see whether it appears. If neither works, the claim is unsupported.
