How Web of Science involvement actually works

Web of Science indexes conference proceedings through the Conference Proceedings Citation Index. Like Scopus, selection happens after publication and is based on the publishing venue rather than the event. References to "ISI indexed" are outdated — ISI became Thomson Reuters and then Clarivate, and the current product name is Web of Science.

What to check before you submit

  • Current terminology — "ISI indexed" suggests copied boilerplate
  • The proceedings publisher named, since CPCI selects sources
  • Evidence that earlier editions appear in Web of Science
  • No promise of an impact factor, which applies to journals, not conferences

What does "ISI indexed" mean on a call for papers?
It is outdated terminology. ISI has been Clarivate's Web of Science for years, so a call still using "ISI indexed" is likely reusing old boilerplate rather than describing a current arrangement.
Do conferences have impact factors?
No. Impact factor is a journal metric. A conference advertising its own impact factor is misrepresenting how the measure works.
